KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Regional and local leaders gathered on Wednesday to announce a climate action plan for the Knoxville area.
"Breathe" is the city's first comprehensive strategy to improve air quality, health and quality of life outcomes, according to Knoxville officials.
The plan, developed over two years, is a collaboration among Knoxville city leaders, regional officials and a group of more than 50 organizations across nine counties. Officials said the plan’s goals and strategies were designed to reflect the region’s priorities and challenges.
The initiative sets greenhouse gas emission reduction targets of 40% by 2035 and 75% by 2050, compared to 2022 levels.
