The mood was electric as people with cameras and phones, their eyes trained on the night sky, gaped in wonder.
As the southern lights, known also as aurora australis , danced across the skies in a majestic display of pinks, yellows and purples, many people rushed outdoors to take photos.
Among those to capture pictures during the display on Wednesday, November 12, was South Coast photographer Belinda Doyle.
"There were only a handful of people around, but everyone I spoke to was buzzing with excitement," she said.
She took her photos at the northern end of Seven Mile Beach in Gerroa between 8.30pm and 9.45pm.
