Thousands of new jobs will come to Wales as Wylfa, on Anglesey , has been chosen as home to a new nuclear power station. The UK Government has said it will create 3,000 jobs at peak construction as well as billions of pounds of infrastructure.
The UK’s first ever small modular nuclear reactor will be built on Ynys Mon by publicly-owned Great British Energy-Nuclear and, subject to final contract, designed by Britain’s Rolls-Royce SMR. The scheme will bring £2.5bn of investment, it is said.
Small modular reactors are smaller and quicker to build than some traditional nuclear power stations. Each reactor can deliver power for the equivalent of around 3m homes, the UK Government has said.
