JACKSON, Mich. (WILX) - Many shoppers around the state have noticed an increase in prices at the grocery store, like John Kandell.
“I mean, when you go to the grocery store, it’s amazing how little you get,” he said.
Kendall lives in Jackson and has recently moved into a new apartment after living in a shelter for the past five months.
On Wednesday, he visited an emergency food drive hosted by the South Michigan Food Bank at the Center for Family Health.
Around 12,000 lbs. of food were given out at the distribution event on Wednesday, enough to feed 500 households.
Kandell had been receiving $140 each month in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, but with that funding in limbo, he says he relies on events like this.
