GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — By this point, you've likely heard a lot of back and forth about the deal passed by the U.S. Senate to end the federal government shutdown. Over 40 days in, it's now become the longest such shutdown in U.S. history , and one that's had visible impacts on West Michigan.
Eight members of the Senate Democratic Caucus - Sens. Catherine Cortez Masto (NV), Dick Durbin (IL), John Fetterman (PA), Maggie Hassan (NH), Tim Kaine (VA), Angus King (ME), Jacky Rosen (NV) and Jeanne Shaheen (NV) - voted in favor of the deal alongside nearly all of the chamber's Republicans. Cortez Masto, Fetterman and King are among the Senators who had already voted in recent days to advance the plan.
Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky was the lone Republican vote against the final deal.
