ROCHESTER, Minn.- The Rochester Police Department says 2 months after installing its new Drone as First Responder stations, the new program has helped it to address over 500 calls.
Captain Jon Turk says the department has been taking it slow to see how it can use the new drones to effectively assist first responders in the field.
Currently there are two drones in the program, one stationed on top of the Rochester Art Center and another on top of RPD's North Station.
Between the two of them, the department says they have an average response time of 2.5 minutes depending on wind speed.
The department says in only a single day in October the new drones helped track down a suspect with an active warrant, find a suspect fleeing after a domestic violence incident and identify an overdose, so
