BUFFALO, N.Y. — Suburban Adult Services , also known as SASI, helps people with developmental disabilities. They have residential settings where people live and depend on SNAP.

The government shutdown caused fear and concern with the clientele.

"The SNAP monthly benefit is critical to their monthly budget," said president of SASI Jeff Patterson.

Often it's the individual client's SNAP benefits that is used to purchase their food.

"It's a different face of SNAP from what people are used to. Hopefully folks now know that when SNAP is affected, many of the people who are affected are people with disabilities," Patterson said.

They have more than 200 people who live in homes.
