Ohio’s municipal income tax system has always carried a basic unfairness — commuters have to pay taxes in the cities where they work but have no vote and no say in how that money is spent.
That was the jumping-off point for the Today in Ohio podcast crew this week, as they dug into why a proposed “fix” in House Bill 503 doesn’t go far enough. The bill would simply require voter approval for any city that wants to change its income-tax credit for commuters.
“I think they should overhaul this whole system,” said Chris Quinn on Wednesday’s episode. “It’s not really fair to tax people on their income where they work without giving them some sort of representation.”
