There was a bit tougher competition this time around, and yet the outcome of the 2025 AL Cy Young award voting by the BBWAA never seemed in doubt. On Wednesday, that assessment was confirmed as Skubal became the 12th pitcher in major league history to claim back-to-back Cy Young awards.

The big left-hander improved on his 2024 numbers, putting up a 2.21 ERA and a 2.45 FIP mark across 195 1/3 inning while striking out a league leading 241 batters in 2025. He even improved on his 0.92 WHIP from last season by registering a 0.89 WHIP this season.

Skubal received 26 first place votes. LHP Garrett Crochet of the Boston Red Sox finished in second place, with RHP Hunter Brown of the Houston Astros coming in third in the voting.
