BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - A 71-year-old woman who has lived in her home for 47 years says an overgrown lot next to her house has become a safety hazard and a hiding place for teenagers. Stella Jackson said the lot has become a breeding ground for rats and roaches. She has asked the city multiple times to help clean up the property.

“You can’t sit in your own yard because you don’t know where a bullet is coming through,” Jackson said. “It’s just sad because you’re paying taxes and these people are giving nothing but excuses.”

Family takes safety measures

Her granddaughter, Shinece Singleton, said they have called 311 multiple times a month for the last few years and even tried cutting the grass themselves. They have invested in pesticides, traps, and repellents to keep the rats and roach
