INDIANAPOLIS — This week, discussions emerged about introducing a 50-year mortgage. It follows a post from President Donald Trump on Truth Social.

His post shows a photo of President Franklin Roosevelt with the caption “30-year mortgage,” since the loan length originated under his presidency. Next to Roosevelt is a photo of Trump with the caption "50-year mortgage."

The goal? Help achieve housing affordability.

Buying an affordable house feels out of reach for many. The median age of a first-time homebuyer is 40-years-old.

Audrey McClelland, a loan officer with GVC Mortgage , says a lot of people are trying to strike a balance between two financial goals.

"They're trying to pay things down while save (money)," McClelland said.
