Anaheim girls basketball coach Vince Gomez, a former O.C. coach of the year who built a consistently winning program, has resigned days before the start of the season, he and athletic director Lanny Booher confirmed on Tuesday.
Gomez said he remains Anaheim’s girls flag football coach and a campus safety employee.
Last weekend, he guided the Colonists’ girls flag football team to the CIF-SS Division 5 title.
“I’m looking to enjoy the CIF championship I got and I’m just looking to go in a slightly new direction,” Gomez said.
Gomez was the Orange County coach of the year in 2019 after leading the Colonists to a Division 5 runner-up finish to Ramona in the CIF Southern California Regional.
