Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has been conferred an honorary Doctor of Letters (D.Litt) by Okayama University of Japan in recognition of her contribution to women’s empowerment at a ceremony in Kolkata on Wednesday.

The award was conferred to Banerjee in a ceremony organised at the Dhanadhanya Theatre in Bhabanipur, where representatives of Okayama University formally presented the degree.

In her acceptance speech, CM Banerjee expressed deep gratitude and praised Japan for its “humanity and love for mankind,” saying she accepted the honour on behalf of “Maa-Mati-Manush.”
