SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - GPS systems, we rely on them daily for navigation, tracking data, and precision agriculture. But have you noticed “it” running a bit slower lately?
“Some farmers, particularly ones that rely on GPS, are having issues because they can’t communicate with the satellites,” explains Dr. Sarah Morrison, Assistant Professor of Astronomy.
This disruption is a direct result of a severe solar storm, a major disturbance in Earth’s magnetic field. While it’s interrupting modern conveniences for some, many as far south as New Mexico were treated to a magnificent light show.
“And it was amazing. I was glad I drove that late at night. The views were amazing, and it was one of my best experiences in my astrophysics career,” recounts Bishwash Devkota, an Astronomy Student at MSU
