India's growing aviation industry continues to soar and link tourists to major cities and remote destinations globally. As demand for air travel grows, many Indian states have been investing heavily in expanding their aviation infrastructure to boost tourism, business, and employment opportunities.

Maharashtra, for instance, currently operates five international airports — in Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Shirdi and Navi Mumbai. However, the newly constructed Navi Mumbai International Airport is yet to commence international flight operations, which is expected to begin from December 2025.
