The fate of Adelaide university sporting clubs, some with more than a hundred years of tradition behind them, is in the wind as a panel decides who wins in the race to stay on campus.
As part of the ongoing University of Adelaide and UniSA merger , sporting clubs — many of which are fierce rivals — have been told to amalgamate.
The vast majority have done so, but there are others that cannot, or have refused to, and have consequently had to plead their case to be chosen over the other.
Officials of state and national sporting organisations, who commented to the ABC on the condition of anonymity, said the merged institute, to be known as Adelaide University (AU), would only allow one club per sport.
