Last week’s U.S. elections offered an unlikely lesson for Quebec: Voters don’t turn out just to block what they fear — they turn out when they believe in something.

Three Democrats won key races that proved the point: Zohran Mamdani in New York City, Mikie Sherrill in New Jersey, and Abigail Spanberger in Virginia.

At first glance, they represent very different wings of the party: Mamdani, a democratic socialist shaped by tenant activism; Sherrill and Spanberger, moderates known for their pragmatism.
