It seems like a small thing, but should not go unnoticed.

A majority on Luzerne County council approved a new ordinance that will impose a $100 fee on properties purchased in county delinquent tax sales and mortgage foreclosure auctions, then use the money for a new county demolition and rehabilitation fund.

As reported in Tuesday’s paper, the county plans to put money from the new fee into a segregated, interest-earning bank account. The account can then be used to cover costs of county demolition and rehabilitation projects, or possibly be awarded funds to municipalities, school districts, redevelopment authorities, land banks and other non-profits to demolish rehab blighted properties.
