Investigators have confirmed through DNA testing that the man behind the deadly car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort was Dr Umar Un Nabi, a medical professional from Kashmir. His body was blown apart in the blast, which killed 9 people and injured dozens on November 10.
According to officials, DNA samples taken from Dr Umar’s mother in Pulwama, south Kashmir, matched the remains recovered from the white Hyundai i20 used in the explosion. Investigators had already suspected Umar’s involvement, as he had purchased the car just 11 days before the blast.
A senior police officer said that Dr Umar’s leg was found trapped between the car’s steering wheel and the accelerator, indicating that he was driving the vehicle at the time of the blast.
