Valley Christian Academy forfeits CIF-Central playoff game
Valley Christian Academy has forfeited its first round CIF-Central 8-man game against Cornerstone Christian because it won't compete against a team that has a female player on its roster.
The Lions finish the season 7-2 and 5-0 in the Coast Valley League.
Head football coach Pete Fortier confirmed the forfeit, but declined to comment further.
The decision isn't the first time the football program has decided to forfeit a game because a female player was on the opposing roster.
The Lions forfeited games against Coast Union in 2022 and 2023 for the same reason.
According to a 2023 story in the Los Angeles Times, Valley Christian Academy has had a school policy on the issue set in place since 2018.
