JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Wednesday night, the Jacksonville City Council took action to make sure no one goes hungry.
Members voted unanimously to give $200,000 to Feeding Northeast Florida, the regional food bank serving Duval and surrounding counties. The money will help the nonprofit buy and distribute food to families who need it most.
In Duval County, one in six families struggles with food insecurity. City leaders are recognizing just how many people have been hit hard by the government shutdown, including children, seniors, and even military families. They're hoping a $200,000 boost will bring some much-needed relief.
“This is one way we can close the gap and eradicate hunger,” said Councilmember Ken Amaro (R - District 1).
