Former San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg has filed campaign paperwork to run for Bexar County judge, records show.
Nirenberg submitted his Appointment of Campaign Treasurer form on Monday, a step into filing to run for an office.
In an Instagram post, the former mayor said he had a “big announcement” to make on Nov. 15.
The event is scheduled to take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Backyard on Broadway, located at 2411 Broadway.
Current Bexar County Judge Peter Sakai has served as the county’s judge since 2023.
Sakai previously announced he is seeking re-election as county judge in the November 2026 election and may face Nirenberg as his opponent.
Nirenberg served as San Antonio mayor for eight years, from 2017 to 2025.
