As the Liberal Party formally ditched its support for Australia's net-zero by 2050 emissions reduction target, leader Sussan Ley kept her game face on.
Addressing the media inside the opposition party room, she declared that her party's new climate policy - which critics say makes the Liberal Party unelectable - would bring down power bills by extending coal and gas while also pursuing "responsible emissions reduction".
Wiping out emissions by 2050 would be "a welcome outcome if it's achieved through technology choice and voluntary markets," the Opposition Leader said, but "make no mistake, we're not pursuing net zero."
Nationals Leader David Littleproud welcomed the announcement, saying it largely mirrored what his party was asking for, ahead of a joint Coalition position being agreed
