The City of Grand Junction is paying $250,000 to settle a lawsuit brought earlier this year against the Grand Junction Police Department by a man who alleged he was wrongfully tased while he was on the ground.
Abraham Ybarra was not suspected of any criminal conduct related to an incident at his house in which he was tased twice by Grand Junction Police officer Cody Lopez, according to the original complaint, which was filed in January.
Police responded to Ybarra’s house on Jan. 14, 2023, for a report that an intoxicated male had broken a car window with a hammer, and was using the hammer to threaten people, according to an arrest affidavit related to the case.
No affidavit for Ybarra’s arrest exists. The charges against him were dropped.
