Nationals' leader David Littleproud has hailed the Liberal Party’s decision to abandon its commitment to net zero by 2050.
The MP for Maranoa described the move as a “mature” and “common sense” step toward a united Coalition position on climate and energy.
Speaking after the announcement, Mr Littleproud said the Liberals’ new stance closely mirrored the Nationals’ plan.
In that plan, he claimed it offered “a cheaper, better, fairer” alternative to Labor’s $9 trillion net zero policy.
On Thursday, Opposition Leader Sussan Ley and shadow energy minister Dan Tehan finalised the Liberal Party's position on net zero following months of debate.
The Liberal Party rejected Labor’s target of 43 per cent emissions reduction by 2030, as well as the net zero 2050 target.
