OLYMPIA, Wash. – Starbucks stores across the country are preparing for a workers' strike as unionized baristas demand better pay and working conditions.
The strike is scheduled to take place on Starbucks' annual Red Cup Day, which is one of the company's busiest sales days of the year.
Ahead of the walkout, Washington State Senator Patty Murray has voiced her opinion. In a letter to CEO Brian Niccol, she urged the company to negotiate in good faith with Starbucks Workers United, the union representing employees at 655 stores, including 38 in Washington state.
The letter from Senator Murray comes after months of stalled negotiations and a six-month delay since the company last presented a contract proposal.
