HMRC has been urged to "clarify" new rules for company car drivers. The Association of Fleet professionals (AFP) is calling on HMRC to issue urgent clarification on how to apply advisory electric rates (AERs).
The Labour Party government is introducing a second AER aimed at reimbursing company car drivers for using a public charger. But the new AER of 14 pence per mile (ppm), effective from September 1, joins the existing rate of 8ppm.
Paul Hollick, chair at the industry body, warned: “Alongside many others in the fleet sector, we were initially very welcoming of the change to a split-level rate, something for which we had been long campaigning in recognition of the widely different costs of private and commercial charging.
