Sadiq Khan is set to hammer drivers and motorists with a new £18 daily fee from January 2. The Congestion Charge was introduced in 2003 by London’s first mayor, Ken Livingstone.

But Labour Party mayor Sadiq Khan is planning to increase the charge from £15 to £18 and scrap the exemption for electric vehicles (EVs).

It comes after AA president Edmund King wrote to the London Mayor, cautioning that removing the Cleaner Vehicle Discount for EVs travelling through the Congestion Charge would be a huge mistake.
