Several high school girls soccer players in Sarasota and Manatee exploded onto the scene last year with breakthrough seasons.

That led to local teams like Lakewood Ranch, Riverview and Braden River finishing among the top 60 teams in the state.

There are players on other teams worth watching, too. Some young teams from last year enter this season armed with some much-needed experience, and although some of the top teams lost talent, they also return key veterans and up-and-coming players.
