MORGANTOWN — Marshall and West Virginia's men's soccer teams battled to the final 30 seconds of a second extra period on Wednesday night before the Thundering Herd scored on a penalty kick following a lengthy review in a Sun Belt Conference tournament semifinal.

Marshall came away with a penalty kick on a called handball via video assistant referee in the final seconds. Joao Alves converted it to win.

With it, the Herd will host the SBC tournament final against UCF on Sunday. The Golden Knights knocked off top-seeded Kentucky in Lexington on Wednesday.

"Played a very entertaining game for all sets of fans," Marshall coach Chris Grassie said. "It was back and forth. Lot of action. (WVU was a (very, very well-coached side. I hope they get a bye (in the NCAA tournament).
