MOUNT PLEASANT — When South Carolina accepted the aircraft carrier Yorktown from the Navy in 1975, state leaders learned the true meaning of “as is” and “without warranty.”
“These gifts are like a free puppy,” Gov. Henry McMaster said at a Nov. 12 press conference aboard the ship. “It’s a free puppy, but for years and years and years you could be spending money and taking care of that puppy.”
