Police say they were being used to 'arrange drug deals, weapon drops and even plan violent attacks'.
Now, hundreds of mobile phones and devices have been mercilessly crushed, having been seized from inmates at HMP Manchester.
Officers from Greater Manchester Police and His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service have seized and destroyed more than 500 mobile phones, electronic devices and SIM cards which were held by prisoners.

GMP says the efforts form part of its work in removing contraband that enables criminal networks to continue operating inside prison walls.
