AMES – Before Iowa State women’s basketball's Nov. 12 game against Valparaiso, Cyclones assistant coach/general manager Billy Fennelly shared a text message with his father, head coach Bill Fennelly.
The text was from former Iowa State men’s basketball star Georges Niang, who urged the staff to revolve their game plan around center Audi Crooks.
“Georges just said, ‘Tell them to throw it to 55 (Crooks) and get the hell out of the way,’” Bill Fennelly recalled. “And that was basically the game plan tonight.”
Fennelly had his players continually throw it to Crooks throughout the evening. And time and time again, she took advantage of a one-on-one matchup deployed by Valparaiso. The night ended with Crooks pouring in an Iowa State single-game record 43 points as the 18 th -ranked Cyclon
