Scores of years have passed since any thought of the old Al Capp comic strip Li’l Abner crossed my mind. But the other day it was brought to my attention that on today’s date of Nov. 13 in 1977 the author ran the strip’s last appearance, thus ending a very long serial of what was for many readers an immensely popular Sunday morning enjoyment. In the event you are too young to remember, Li’l Abner was a humorous, satirical comic strip in many Sunday newspapers across the nation running from 1934 until its above mentioned ending. Its primary character was the simple, dim-witted, good-natured hillbilly Abner Yokum, the son of Mammy Yokum and also the eventual husband of the beautiful Daisy Mae. Of course there were quite a number of other eccentric characters as well.
