ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. — A new runway could come to the Elizabethtown Regional Airport, which could help boost air traffic and support Fort Knox’s military operations.
It could open the door to smooth operations, even in rough weather.
“During the cold weather months, we have to find an approach to the south end of the runway,” said Don Cox, vice chair of Elizabethtown’s Airport Board. “This will allow us to have a better, lower minimum approach coming from the other direction.”
The new runway would span 200-plus acres.
Cox said this will also help private jets that will fly in and out of the airport.
“It allows it to take off fully loaded with fuel and not have to do a fuel stop somewhere,” he said.
In August, BlueOval SK opened its front doors, creating more than 1,400 jobs in Hardin
