Long-time college football commentator and syndicated sports talker Paul Finebaum is “very close” to deciding whether he’ll run for U.S. Senate in 2026.
Finebaum said during an interview with Outkick's Clay Travis in September about a possible Senate bid, “It is very intriguing. I’m thinking about it constantly.”
According to Front Office Sports , Finebaum remains “very close” to leaving ESPN to run for U.S. Senate.
Sources familiar with the matter believe Finebaum will announce after the conclusion of the 2025 college football season.
Alabama has an open Senate seat in 2026 due to U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) running for governor instead of seeking reelection.
The crowded Republican primary field for the seat already includes: Alabama Attorney General Steve Marsh
