BAINBRIDGE ISLAND -- A former daycare has been purchased by Housing Kitsap to develop affordable housing primarily for individuals and families that work on Bainbridge but can not afford to live in the community.

A 2,500-square-foot building at 502 Cave Ave NE was officially purchased on Oct. 21 and is slated to be turned into three affordable housing units with two additional units possible in the future. These units will be primarily for workers on the island who make less than 80% of the area median income, or less than $99,440 for a four-person household in 2025, according to a Housing Kitsap announcement and data from the City of Bainbridge Island.
