Outlander author Diana Gabaldon is to receive an honorary doctorate from a Scottish university. The storyteller will be recognised for her "outstanding contribution to literature and entertainment" today, November 13, by the University of the Highlands and Islands. ‌

At a graduation ceremony at Eden Court in Inverness , the legendary author will receive the prestigious award to celebrate the contribution of her written work to "Scottish history and heritage" as well as its promotion of the Highlands. ‌

Gabaldon's nine-strong Outlander series has sold more than 50 million copies worldwide and has been translated into 39 languages across 114 countries. ‌

The books tell the story of a nurse, Claire Randall, who is transported from her second honeymoon
