WASHINGTON —

President Donald Trump signed a funding bill on Wednesday night, ending the longest government shutdown in American history after the House passed the short-term budget mostly along party lines.

The House passed the legislation on Wednesday night after the Senate approved it on Monday. All but six Democrats opposed the measure because it did not include their healthcare demands to extend enhanced tax credits that lower the cost of coverage, which are set to expire at the end of the year. The Democrats voting for the measure were Reps. Henry Cuellar of Texas, Don Davis of North Carolina, Marie Gluesenkamp Perez of Washington, Jared Golden of Maine, Adam Gray of California, and Tom Suozzi of New York. All represent swing districts.
