The Avett Brothers and Mike Patton, “AVTT/PTTN” (Thirty Tigers/Ramseur/Ipecac Recordings): It’s not a pairing that was on too many -- or likely any -- bingo cards, but this nine-track collaboration proves to be a meeting of truly kindred spirits. Seth and Scott Avett cite Patton and his work with Faith No More and Mr. Bungle as influences; he, in turn, gets some audible juice from working with them, and the wide-ranging, albeit Americana-leaning, results are anything but predictable but undeniably exciting.
