A 63-year-old Dennis man was convicted Wednesday of making a threat against a state representative online, according to the Cape & Islands District Attorney‘s office.
A jury convicted James Spence of a single count of threat to commit a crime (arson) following a trial in Barnstable District Court, District Attorney Robert J. Galibois said in a statement.
On Feb. 25, Barnstable police learned of a threatening post made by Spence online. Spence was responding to a post from State Rep. Steve Xiarhos, R-5th Barnstable.
In the post, he said, “Tell your tyrant to reel it in or the people will burn your house, office and tar and feather you in the streets of Hyannis. I will not support you or your Trumpism. This is a warning of what the people are saying,” according to the district attorney’s
