DALLAS — It's official: Dallas City Council elections will no longer be held in May.

The Dallas City Council on Wednesday unanimously approved moving the Dallas City Council elections from May to November in odd-numbered years.

Dallas City Council members said they hope the move will help increase voter turnout and save the city money.

"The goal was to one, increase voter turnout, two, reduce voter fatigue, and three save city taxpayers money," Dallas City Council member Chad West said. "Moving the election date will increase voter participation. Currently our city council elections consistently see some of the lowest voter turnout of any major city in the country."
