An armed man shot and wounded by a Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office deputy in Tickfaw Tuesday evening had threatened self harm and barricaded himself inside a residence, Louisiana State Police officials said.
Deputies initially responded to the residence on Waltrip Lane at around 2:30 after a 911 call about a man threatening self-harm.
The deputies had extended negotiations with the man, who was undergoing what Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Gerald Sticker called a "mental health crisis", state police said Wednesday night.
Following the negotiations, the man exited the residence but was not complying with the deputies’ commands, and the deputies began using “non-lethal law enforcement measures,” state police said.
