James O’Connor has been recalled to the Wallabies starting lineup to face Ireland in Dublin this Saturday, after being left out of the previous three Tests against Japan, England and Italy.

O’Connor played every Test of the Rugby Championship, but until this week in Dublin, the Leicester veteran was not needed, taking a holiday in Morocco while the Wallabies travelled to Italy.

Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt said Carter Gordon’s quad was aggravated against Italy, paving the way for O’Connor to start and moving Tane Edmed to the bench.

“[Gordon] pulled up immediately after making a kick [against Italy], his quad cramped up, and we just think it’s a bit of a risk to put him back out there this week,” Schmidt said.
