LUCEDALE, Miss. (WLOX) - Lucedale police are warning residents after multiple reports of people using or attempting to use counterfeit money in the area.
An estimated $70 million to $200 million in counterfeit bills are in circulation at any given time, according to the United States Department of the Treasury.
Authorities say residents can help spot real currency by checking for tiny red and blue lines embedded in the paper, serial numbers that are evenly spaced and printed in the same ink as the Treasury Seal, and portraits that are lifelike and stand out from the background.
If you believe you have received counterfeit currency or have information about those involved, you are urged to contact the Lucedale Police Department at 601-947-3261.
