LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - This week’s Hometown Hero is a retired disabled veteran, a former Calcasieu Corrections Officer, and now an ordained minister who is using his voice to continue to serve his community.

James White of Lake Charles served in both the Air Force and the Louisiana National Guard and was a combat field medic in Desert Storm. Since then, he’s become a voice for the community by sharing his experiences.

“Me, personally, without a father figure in my life, I needed discipline and direction. And the military provided that for me.”

And often, James will tell the story of his fellow veterans in Louisiana who have powerful stories that have unfortunately gone unheard over the years.
