Less than two months before Pomona’s rent-stabilization ordinance is expected to take effect, city leaders are tinkering with details of the program meant to protect renters in the community.
Under an ordinance first approved in June, rent increases would be capped at 5% annually and renters could be eligible for relocation assistance should landlords opt for no-fault evictions to remove a tenant from a property.
Earlier this month, the City Council reaffirmed its commitment to those provisions of the ordinance but changed others.
“There are consequences for families, children, and older adults when they are struggling to put food on the table and to be able to pay rent,” Mayor Tim Sandoval said at the council’s Nov. 3 meeting.
