ATLANTA, Georgia (WDEF) – The debate over extending the cellphone ban to high schools continues in Georgia.

State lawmakers banned them in K-through-8 grades this school year.

But lawmakers will consider extending the ban to high schools in the next legislative session.

At a hearing on Wednesday, educators raved about how the ban had helped in the lower schools this year.

They cited fewer distractions from calls and notifications to students.

But one Superintendent warned that extending the ban to high schools next year will be a “hard sell” for parents.

Many are adamant that they need to be in touch with their kids at schools, particularly in case of school shootings.

Many states, including Tennessee, have banned cellphones in all schools.

Georgia is one of the few that have not.
