A crash in unincorporated Multnomah County killed a 68-year-old bicyclist on Tuesday, officials said.

Rutilo Moreno Jorge fell off his bike and into the road, where an SUV hit him near 9920 South Riverside Drive at about 5:30 p.m., the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

Jorge died shortly after first-responders arrived, officials said.

Along with sheriff’s deputies, Portland police and Portland Fire & Rescue responded to the call.

The 32-year-old driver of the SUV stayed at the scene, police said The driver has not been publicly identified.

Based on the initial on-scene investigation, detectives believe Jorge, who appears to have been wearing a helmet, lost control of his bike “after potentially hitting a rock on the shoulder of the roadway.”
