Plans for a solar farm on farmland near a rural village are set to be rejected. BSR Energy Ltd asked Maidstone Borough Council (MBC) for permission to build a solar farm on Harp Farm, Boxley, in May this year.

Planning documents explain the site to be developed is in agricultural use at present. This would be a temporary use development for up to 40 years.

It is often the case that large solar farms are proposed as temporary measures in planning applications . According to the documents submitted with the application, the proposed development would produce enough clean renewable electricity to power approximately 6,595 homes per year, representing an annual CO2 saving of approximately 5,841 tonnes.

Using the most recent census data (2021), this figure equates approximately to 9.26
